Let the Ford GT Order Books Open

The big day has finally at long last arrived. Wednesday, Ford started taking online applications for its all-newFord GT supercar.  I do believe I’ll take mine in red, please.

Keep in mind these are limited production models. The automaker will build 500 of them in the first two years of production, that means 250 per year.

Since numbers are limited, Ford won’t be handing out the keys to one to just anyone. The application process is designed to identify potential Ford GT owners who really celebrate the Ford brand (hint, it will help a lot if you’ve owned a GT in the past.) You can submit an application at

“The purchase process for the Ford GT is as unique as our all-new supercar,” says Henry Ford III, global marketing manager, Ford Performance. “We understand GT customers are strong ambassadors for Ford Motor Company, and we look forward to providing them a service as distinct as the car itself.”

If you’re aiming to put an application in, you only have until May 12, 2016 to do it. That’s when the first round of applications closes.  Accepted applicants will get special one-on-one treatment when it comes to personalized ordering and can order from the Ford dealer of their choice.

“There’s a loyal following to the car,” says Raj Nair, Ford’s product chief. “We want to prioritize people who are going to care about the car, keep the car and drive the car.”

Everyone else can have fun though using the online configurator to build the virtual Ford GT of their dreams, if only on a computer screen.

The new Ford GT is the automaker’s most advanced production vehicle ever. It will be available in eight colors and seven different stripe colors.

The price tag for one of these? The mid-$400,000 range. So, okay, I guess I won’t be putting in an order for that one in red. But I look forward to seeing one on the road.
