So how cool is former astronaut Buzz Aldrin! The second man to walk on the moon, and one of only twelve people ever to do so, is heading up a new social media campaign to remember the Apollo 11 mission. Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, along with mission commander Neil Armstrong (1930-2012), set foot on the moon for 21.5 hours on July 20, 1969. With the mission's 45th anniversary just around the corner, Aldrin is asking people around the world to share their memories of the event, which unfolded on live television thanks to the Westinghouse Apollo 11 Lunar Surface Television Camera that beamed its signal back to earth.
Texas is the land of big trucks, big hair and, more important to this story, big oil. Considering all of the resources that go into all that, I feel perfectly comfortable saying that efforts to save energy, get better fuel economy and otherwise "go green" haven't exactly taken off quickly in my native home state. (Composting is considered a foreign word here.) So it's a little more than ironic that electric car maker Tesla is reportedly eyeing Dallas as a site for its new $5B gigafactory.
Get ready Dallas! $30,000 Millionaires, a new reality TV show, could soon be filming in the Big D! A casting call is now underway for the series and if producers find just the right players, the show could indeed become reality. Indeed, finding the right cast is essential to the success of a show and whether it gets picked up by a Network. It's all about dynamics, personalities and finding that perfect mix of characters.
Google's autonomous vehicles aren't the companies only cars on the streets these days. Say hello to Google Shopping Express. If you live in San Francisco, you've probably seen one in your neighborhood. Google Shopping Express is the online giant's newest attempt to give product giant Amazon a run for its money by offering same day delivery service from major retailers.
If I'm ever stranded on a desert island, I hope it's one with avocado trees because I believe life simply cannot exist without guacamole. (Well, that among other things including red wine, Cowgirl Creamery cheese and Cane Rosso pizza.) But back to the guacamole, I was pleasantly surprised to see it on the menu of Chino Chinatown, located in the new Trinity Groves neighborhood in Dallas.
Sometimes paradise is a lot closer than you think. As in around the corner at Velvet Taco in Dallas. This place has the most decadent dish I've come across in awhile: Crisp Tots & Local Egg with herbed goat cheese, smoked cheddar, basil crema and, bacon. Yes, bacon!
Brunch at new San Francisco hotspot La Urbana is amazing and still so much of a secret, there's not much a wait. But don't expect that to last long. The braised short ribs, served with scrambled eggs and tortillas was so good I would seriously order it every day of the week if possible.
Quixote Winery in Napa is quite a place! And winery owner and long time Napa fixture Carl Doumani is quite a guy. I had the pleasure to meet Carl, and tour his fanciful winery, on a film shoot for HGTV.
